Ref PC8 Georgian Love Token
Charming ring, circa 1800, the trifurcated gold hoop supporting a compartment containing a sepia and hairwork love motto on ivory, under a domed crystal. A sepia ribbon is tied in a bow, above a basket of roses fashioned from dyed macerated hair, the basket edged with gold and with a central glass pearl. The miniature is set within a border of seed pearls. This ring would have been presented as a token of affection, as roses were the flowers of Venus. It is size K [US 5 and 1/8] and can be sized and the head of the ring measures 3/4 of an inch by 2/3 of an inch. Delightful and immaculate.
