Ref  NK1  Mourning Ring

A commissioned mourning ring of quality, dated 1804. The gold and black enamelled hoop supports a single old-cut diamond weighing approximately half a carat, in a black enamel setting. Diamond sparks decorate the band which is inscribed : Drop the tear of sensibility on the grave of virtue. This sentimental tribute of a tear exacted by the spectacle of virtue was an acknowledgment of  the deceased person's inherent goodness. To interior are the details of the young person commemorated : J R Wilmer Obt 7 Jan 1804 ae 27. The ring is size K and 1/2 [US 5 and 3/8] and the band is 1/4 inch wide. A unique mourning ring with enamel in near perfect condition.
