REF  LBH3  Victorian Aluminium Bangle

Aluminium, first isolated in 1827, was for some decades afterwards prized more highly than gold. Jewellers were fascinated by the lightweight metal and used it in novel pieces of jewellery, mixed with gilt metal or gold. This cuff bangle, circa 1870, is aluminium and gilt metal, set with an faceted amethyst. It is 3/4 of an inch wide and will fit a wrist of up to 6 and 1/4 inches. This piece is rare, I have not seen an aluminium bangle before, the only aluminium examples I have had have been bracelets.
