Feather aigrette
For me the allure of Georgian jewellery is not only to do with the workmanship and ingenuity, it’s also about those colours, the intense, delicious, candy like colours which are so visually appealing. This is an aigrette hair ornament with brooch fitting, circa 1780, designed to be worn on a wig or as a bodice ornament. It is the form of a beribboned feather. The aigrette is gold and set with shimmering almandine garnets over rose-pink foil in closed back settings. It measures 3 inches by 2 inches. Quite delicious.
