Fine quality 19th century paste rivière, circa 1840. Rivière literally translates as  ‘a river’, a seamless line of gems encircling the neck. It is silver with a gold wash reverse and set with very bright colourless paste in cut-down, open backed settings. The necklace is graduated and is 16 inches long. The largest pastes front centre measure 1/3 of an inch by 1/3 of an inch and the smallest next to integral paste clasp measure 1/4 of an inch by 1/4 of an inch. Substantial and immaculate.
