Sir Robert Williams Baronet
An unusual George II mourning pendant, circa 1745. The glazed pendant of oval outline mounted in gold containing painted vellum, one side reading ‘Sir Rob. Williams Baronet, Born the 3d May 1716‘, to ground of floral scrolls surmounted by a pair of cherubs holding a crown, the reverse with a skull and crossbones atop a reliquary applied with hair, reading ‘Sir Rob. Williams Baronet Obt the 12th November 1745. Length 1 and 3/4 inches including bail fitting. Sir Robert Williams was the 7th of the Williams-Bulkelely Baronetcy of Penrhyn in Wales, who died at the age of 29, unmarried and without issue, his title passing to his cousin. Their family seat was the now-derelict Baron Hill in Beaumaris, Anglesey.
