Fer de Berlin
A Neo-classical Berlin iron necklace circa 1820. The necklace is comprised of panels with mythological characters silhouetted against polished steel back plates. At the centre a butterfly representing Psyche [ the soul], to either side winged cupids and on the clasp Hermes in winged helmet. The plaques are joined by swags of micro-belcher Berlin iron chain. The necklace is 17 and 1/4 inches long, the centre plaque measures 1 and 1/8 inches by one inch and the putto plaques measure 3/4 of an inch by 2/3 of an inch. In immaculate, rust-free condition.
