Georgian en tremblant aigrette
I cannot resist a good piece of Georgian paste. This aigrette, circa 1800, is silver set with colourless black dot paste in foiled and closed back settings. Aigrettes were an ideal adornment for the elaborate hairstyles and wigs favoured during the Georgian era. It would have originally graced a powdered wig but works just as well today in a chignon or ponytail. The aigrette is asymmetrical and in the form of a crescent moon with a foliate spray and is en tremblant – it is attached to a spring which creates a trembling effect as the wearer moves her head. The comb pins are metal for strength. It is 3 and 1/3 inches long and the aigrette section is 2 inches across. Immaculate.
