Giardinetti illustrated in ‘Georgian Jewellery’

Giardinetti from Georgian Jewellery

Giardinetti [little garden] gems were at the height of fashion from circa 1740 to 1800. These Rococo jewels utilised gaily coloured gems arranged in floral settings. Often giardinetti jewels were given as little love tokens. This giardinetti brooch, circa 1760, is silver and gold and set with rose-cut diamonds, Burma rubies, sapphires  and Columbian emeralds in the form of a floral arrangement. It is illustrated on page 144 of Georgian Jewellery. The brooch measures one inch by one inch and is very fine quality and immaculate.
