Old English Bull Mastiff puppy

A reverse intaglio carved crystal of a Bull Mastiff puppy, set to an 18 carat gold and silver pendant mount with a rose-cut diamond surround, circa 1880. The reverse is mother of pearl. The technique of reverse intaglio crystal carving required great skill, first carving out a domed rock crystal in intaglio and then painting the carving in fine detail. The effect achieved is photo-realistic. The pendant measures 1 and 1/4 inches by 3/4 of an inch and is well executed and immaculate. Sadly my photos don’t do him justice …
