A stylish sterling silver bangle of unusual design, dated 1877, a presentation gift. The obverse of the bangle is set with three sillver domes in engraved settings. To reverse, the inscription : Presented by the Workmen of Pirnie Colliery to Mrs James Kirby Nov 9th 1887. Pirnie was a working colliery in Leven, Fife, Scotland in the 19th century. The colliery’s manager was James W. Kirby, a keen geologist. It seems quite amazing that the workers, who would have been on low wages, presented this bangle to his wife. The bangle is one inch wide and will fit a wrist of 7 to 8 inches. Solid, well constructed, immaculate.
