A fine quality Georgian portrait ring of a notable of the theatre, circa 1800. The high carat gold shank supports a carved portrait in profile facing sinister on a Bristol blue glass ground of Richard Sheridan, [1751 -1816], the Irish playwright, poet and satirist. Sheridan is known for his plays such as The School for Scandal and The Rivals. The ring is size S [US 9 and 1/8] and the head of the ring measures 1 and 1/8 inches by 2/3 of an inch. Fine quality carving, immaculate condition.
