Queen Anne pendant

Queen Anne pendant

‘Queen Anne’ jewellery, rather misleadingly named as it was made in the mid-18th century rather than in the reign of Queen Anne, was ideally suited to the properties of paste. This pendant, circa 1740, is gilt metal set with vibrant electric blue faceted paste in closed back settings. It has the saw-teeth settings typical of Queen Anne jewellery. The pendant measures 1 and 3/4 inches by 3/4 of an inch and one can imagine the flash of colour when it was worn in flickering candle light.
