Sir Robert Williams, Baronet
A most unusual gold mourning pendant dated 1745. The obverse has a watercolour depiction on vellum [fine parchment] of a coffin embellished with macerated hair, surmounted by a skull and crossbones. Beneath the coffin are the details of the deceased : Sir Rob. Williams Baronet obt. the 12th November 1745. To reverse are the details of his birth : Sir Rob. Williams Baronet Born the 3d May 1716, surmounted by cherubs holding a crown aloft. Sir Robert Williams was the 7th baronet of the Williams-Bulkeley Baronetcy of Penrhyn in Wales. He died unmarried in 1745, and the baronetcy passed to his kinsmen. The pendant measures 1 and 1/2 inches by 1 and 1/4 inches. A rare mourning piece.
