Thinke on mee

I give it thee to thinke on mee

‘The posies on your ring are always next to the finger, not to be seene of him that holdeth you by the hand, and yet knowne by you that weare them on your hands.’  John Lyly, 1579.

A charming high carat gold posy hoop, circa 1680. The outer hoop is engraved with hearts and has traces of green and white enamel intact. To interior a posy motto in Italic script : I give it thee to thinke on mee and a maker’s mark. The archaic spelling is delightfully irregular. The posy is cited in Evans’ English Posies and Posy Rings. The ring is size H and 1/2 [US 4] and in completely original and most wearable condition. There is a tiny ding above the first word where it would have come into contact with a shovel or plough during excavation but this only adds to its charm and originality. Precious little thing.
