Love and fidelity – enamel vinaigrette pendant

A  high carat gold and enamel vinaigrette pendant, French or Swiss, 1840. The vinaigrette depicts a winged cherub and a dog, symbol of fidelity. The interior grille is pierced to allow perfume to waft from a sponge. These decorative containers for scent or aromatic substances were extremely popular in the Romantic period. The vinaigrette measures 1.5 inches by one inch and the total length including enamelled chain is 2.5 inches long. Very fine quality and immaculate.
