Georgian wheat sheaf ring
Georgian mourning ring, circa 1820. The gold shank supports a plaque with an opalescent glass ground surmounted by a diamond-tied wheat sheaf of hair, under domed crystal and within a surround of pearls, set silver. Wheat symbolised the fertility of the earth, renewal, rebirth and abundance. It also represented a long and fruitful life to be enjoyed by the deceased. The ring is size O [US 7] and the head of the ring measures one inch by 2/3 of an inch. Sweet little ring, immaculate.
