Angel’s wings

Winged cherub

An evocative enamel miniature of a young girl, circa 1820, set to gold and silver brooch. The hint of dark clouds and rose-cut diamond angel’s wings denote it as a most poignant mourning piece for a child. In mourning iconography wings were an expression of the aspiration of the soul towards a higher than human condition. The brooch measures 1 and 1/8 inches by 1 and 1/3 inches and is beautifully executed and immaculate. Possibly by the hand of Jean Baptiste Jacques Augustin.
