Jessamine
An unusually large and substantial silver and black dot paste jessamine brooch, circa 1780. Jessamine was an archaic term for jasmine, the flower symbolising love, beauty and purity. The pastes are set in foiled, closed back settings. This is a special piece, it is from the collection of the late Jean Louis Chameroy, a connoisseur collector and esteemed colleague. He meticulously curated a selection of 18th and 19th century jewels, collated over three decades. Jean Louis collected only the best examples of Georgian jewellery and he had a penchant for fine early paste. If he were to add a jessamine to his collection, it had to be the finest example possible. This jessamine measures 2 and 1/4 inches by 2 and 1/4 inches and is immaculate.
