Butterfly
A Georgian silver and paste butterfly brooch, circa 1780. The calibré cut black dot pastes are in foiled, closed back settings. Black dot paste was created with a small black dot painted on the underside of the paste to give the illusion of depth. The butterfly is in its original fitted case. This is a special piece, it is from the collection of the late Jean Louis Chameroy, a connoisseur collector and esteemed colleague. Jean Louis meticulously curated a selection of 18th and 19th jewels, collated over three decades. He collected only the best examples of Georgian jewellery and he had a penchant for fine early paste. If he were to add a paste butterfly to his collection, it had to be the finest example possible. This is just that. The butterfly measures 2 and 1/2 inches by 1 and 1/4 inches and is immaculate.
