Victorian amethyst rivière
An amethyst rivière, circa 1880. Rivière literally translates as a ‘river’, a seamless line of gems encircling the neck. This example is silver gilt [silver dipped in gold] and set with large faceted violet amethysts. The rivière is 16 inches long. The largest amethysts front centre measure 2/3 of an inch by 1/2 an inch and the smallest at reverse measure 1/2 an inch by 1/3 of an inch. Immaculate.
