Georgian swirl ring
Sweet Georgian swirl ring, circa 1820. The high carat gold bifurcated shank supports a plaque of royal blue guilloche enamel surmounted by a swirl of rose-cut diamonds, the gems set silver. The reason diamonds were predominantly set in silver in the Georgian era as it was an age before widespread use of platinum and the white metal silver showcased the colour of the diamonds. The ring has a rayed reverse. It is size J and 1/2 [US 5] and can be sized and the head of the ring measures 1/2 an inch by 1/2 an inch. Immaculate condition.
