Roman Minerva
A substantial and solid 18 carat gold Neo-classical ring circa 1800, containing a deeply incised Roman cornelian intaglio of Minerva, circa 3rd century A.D. The goddess is depicted facing dexter with a spear and a palm frond to represent peace achieved through vigilance. Roman intaglios were often purchased on the Grand Tour and then mounted as jewels. The ring is size L and 1/2 [US 5 aand 7/8], of extremely fine quality and immaculate.
