A very fine quality 18 carat gold textured bracelet circa 1880, gem-set with the letters AEI. Anecdotally the letters were said to represent Amitie, Eternity, Infinity, yet actually the Greek word ἀεί means ‘always’ or ‘forever’. The gems utilised denote it as a love token – diamonds for constancy, rubies for passionate love and emeralds for enduring love. The bracelet has a clever sliding mechanism which means it will fit any wrist measuring from 6 inches to 7.5 inches – simply move the mechanism along to the desired wrist size, clip it into place and it will not move. The bracelet is 2/3 of an inch wide and weighs a substantial 51 grams. Sinuous, flexible, sits well on the wrist. Clever little Victorians.
