Amethyst poissardes
A pair of 18 carat gold poissarde earrings, circa 1810. The name poissarde originated from the fish sellers in Paris who first wore this style of earring. Subsequently they were adopted by the upper classes and created in precious metal and gems. The ear wires have a typical S-shaped fish-hook style cross over and thread through the ear back to front. These poissardes are set with amethysts, turquoise and natural pearls. They are one inch long and one inch wide. Not at all heavy on the ear and immaculate.
