Amethyst rivière

A fine quality and substantial amethyst rivière, circa 1840. Rivière in jewellery referred to a necklace of uniformly set gems that flowed around the neck. This one is 15 carat gold and set with graduated intense violet faceted amethysts in cut-down, open backed settings. It is 16 and 1/4 inches long. The largest amethysts front centre measure 2/3 of an inch by 1/2 an inch and the smallest next to the amethyst clasp measure 1/3 of an inch by 1/4 of an inch. Substantial, vibrant colour, immaculate.
