Bague au firmament
A rather splendid bague au firmament [stars in heaven ring], French, circa 1780 -1800. It is the largest and most impressive one of its type I’ve had. The high carat gold bifurcated shank supports a plaque set with a ground of vibrant foiled amethyst glass, surmounted by twinkling rose-cut diamonds in silver settings, within a surround of rose-cut diamonds. There are approximately two carats of diamonds in the ring. The ring is size O [US 7] and can be sized and the head of the ring measures 1 and 2/3 inches by 3/4 of an inch. Extremely comfortable on the finger due to its curved shape, absolutely luscious.
