Bague au firmament
A most unusual example of a Georgian bague au firmament. This style of ring originated in France and as France was the fashion capital of Europe, the design was emulated in other European countries. This example is Dutch, with marks indicating it is from Winschoten and dates to between 1806 and 1810. The trifurcated, decorative high carat gold shank supports a lozenge set with a ground of foiled caramel glass surmounted by a starburst of rose-cut diamonds, within a rose-cut diamond surround. The ring is size O and 1/2 [US 7 and 1/4] and the head of the ring measures 1 and 1/4 inches by 2/3 of an inch. Very fine quality and immaculate.
