Burmese sapphire double heart ring
A pretty 18 carat gold ring circa 1880, of entwined hearts crowned with a bow-ribbon. The ring is set with two natural Burma sapphires of approximately 0.45 points each, within a surround of natural pearls. Myanmar (formerly known as Burma) in Southeast Asia, is known historically for its exceptional quality gemstones, including sapphires, rubies, jadeite and spinel. The majority of stones mined in Burma are rubies, with fewer than 10% of the gemstones being sapphires, making them extremely rare and among the most coveted sapphires in the world. Burmese sapphires are renowned for their intense, highly saturated royal blue hue and a unique velvety softness caused by fine silk inclusions that scatter light within the stone. The ring is size L and 1/2 [US 5 and 7/8] and can be sized and the head of the ring measures 1/2 an inch by 1/2 an inch. Very fine quality and immaculate.
