Tabby cat
A reverse carved crystal of a tabby cat set in 18 carat gold, circa 1890 – 1900. Essex crystal carvings were created from a rock crystal cabochon (polished domes of rock crystal with a flat base), on which an image was then reverse carved and painted, to give the impression of a three dimensional object encapsulated in the cabochon when viewed from above. The piece was originally a stickpin and is now a pendant. It measures 1/2 of an inch by 1/2 of an inch and is fine quality and immaculate.
