Dalmatian

A fine reverse intaglio carving of a dalmatian wearing a gold collar, set to an 18 carat gold sunburst pendant mount, circa 1900. The technique of reverse intaglio crystal carving required great skill, first carving out a domed natural rock crystal in intaglio and then painting the carving in fine detail. The effect achieved is photo-realistic and the animal appears to be trapped within the crystal. The carving is mother-of-pearl backed. The pendant measures 1.5 inches by 1.5 inches. Very fine, realistic carving capturing a sense of movement.
