Excelsior

A most unusual high carat gold ring within a ring, circa 1840. The outer hoop is engraved and swivels open to reveal an inner ring emblazoned with the word ‘Excelsior’. The Latin word ‘Excelsior’ means ‘Ever upward!’, an 18th century exclamation or encouragement to strive for excellence or something of superior quality. The ring is size M [US 6] and the hoop is 1/4 inch wide. Such an ingenious ring with such a positive message, in immaculate condition.
