Floriography
Floriography, the language of flowers, is the practice of attributing meanings and symbolism to flowers, usually of a sentimental nature. This is a rather luscious French floriographic love token ring, circa 1800. The high carat fluted shank supports a head set with a plaque of royal blue enamel, surmounted by a large four petalled flower executed in rose-cut diamonds. The four petalled flower was a symbol of life, wholeness, beauty, fragrance and union, with each petal imparting uniqueness and each uniqueness coming together in the centre. The ring is size M [US 6] and the head of the ring measures 1 and 1/4 inches by 3/4 of an inch. Gorgeous little thing.
