Gem-set coiled serpent pendant

An 18 carat gold and silver entwined serpent pendant circa 1840. The head of the serpent is set with a sapphire of 1.20 carats within a rose-cut diamond surround. He has ruby eyes. From the serpent’s mouth hangs a ruby heart of 0.40 points, also within a rose-cut diamond surround. The reverse of the ruby heart is engraved with a coronet and the initials VE. The pendant measures 1 and 2/3 inches by 1 and 1/8 inches and is immaculate.
