Georgian amethyst pansies

A rather fabulous Georgian amethyst necklace, circa 1820, a romantic jewel comprised of pansy flowers, symbolising ‘think of me’, from the French : Pense à moi. The necklace is 18 carat gold and set with vibrant, deep violet amethysts in foiled and closed back cut-down settings. Amethyst is strongly associated with St. Valentine, the patron saint of romantic love. The necklace is 16 inches long with an integral amethyst clasp and the pansies are unusually substantial, measuring 3/4 of an inch by 3/4 of an inch each. Immaculate, probably the best example of a Georgian pansy necklace I have seen in such a glorious colour and with such large pansies.
