Harlequin pansies illustrated in ‘Georgian Jewellery’

Harlequin pansies from Georgian Jewellery

Two delightful harlequin pansies, circa 1800, illustrated on page of 141 of the publication Georgian Jewellery. Harlequin described the fashion for combining complementary coloured gems on pieces of jewellery. These two harlequin gems are in the form of pansies, symbolising pensée – think of the giver. They are both gold and set with amethysts, garnets and colourfully foiled rock crystal. The smaller one on the right  measures 3/4 of an inch by 3/4 of an inch and the larger one on the left measures one inch by one inch. My jeweller can easily adapt the brooch pins so they can be worn as pendants if desired without compromising their original form. Delicious.
