Georgian paste ring

Georgian paste ring

A Georgian gold ring of oval cluster form, circa 1780. It is set with colourless black dot paste in foiled and closed back settings, within a border of royal blue enamel. In the Georgian era a black dot was often painted on the culet of the paste to create an impression of depth. This was a time consuming part of manufacture and therefore indicative of a high quality of the pastes utilised. The ring is size M [US 6] and the head of the ring measures 3/4 of an inch by 2/3 of an inch. Fine quality and immaculate.
