Georgian ruby heart ring

A little poppet of a late 18th century ring. The high carat gold shank supports a head set with a natural Burma ruby in a heart shaped setting between rose-cut diamonds, all gems foiled and set silver. The ruby symbolised passionate love and the diamonds symbolised constancy. The reverse of the ring is rayed and scalloped. It is size J [US 4 and 5/8 ] and in very fine, original condition.
