A sweet diamond giardinetti ring, circa 1780. Giardinetti is Italian for “little gardens”. These floral themed jewels reflected the 18th century taste for the delicate and elegant Rococo style, a departure from the heavier and more ostentatious styles of earlier years. Giardinetti rings were designed to compliment the floral fabrics in vogue at the time. Here the high carat gold ribbed shank supports a basket with a central cushion-cut diamond and rose-cut diamond flowers, set silver. The ring is size L [US 5 and 1/2] and the gem-set head measures 3/4 of an inch by 1/2 an inch. Very fine quality and immaculate.
