Giardinetti

Giardinetti

During the 18th century rings with bezels composed of flowers set with gemstones were known as ‘giardinetti’ or ‘little gardens’. They were characteristic of the light, delicate, Rococo style fashionable in Europe. The stones could be a mixture of coloured gems, or, as in this case, purely diamonds. This example, circa 1780, has a high carat gold shank supporting a bezel of rose-cut diamonds, foiled and set silver. The ring is size J [US 5 and 1/4] and can be sized up. Vibrant, sparkling diamonds, immaculate.
