Giuliano ring
A rare late 19th century enamel ring by the hand of Federico Giuliano, Carlo Giuliano’s brother, the first Giuliano ring I have seen.
From The Giuliano Family, Art Jewellers by Geoffrey Munn : From its beginning the career of Carlo Giuliano had been shadowed by that of his younger brother Federico who arrived in England later than Carlo to find a share in his success. However before long they quarrelled and went their separate ways. In 1883 Federico opened his own London emporium accompanied by his son Ferdinando. Pieces by Federico and Ferdinando are rarely found and are identified by their cases, no signed examples have been traced at present, but almost certainly exist.
Pieces by Federico and Ferdinando are extremely rare and are almost always unsigned. This ring is 15 carat gold and enamelled fully round in the distinctive Giuliano colour palette of shades of pale blue, black rosettes and white dots. It is size L and 1/2 [US 5 and 7/8] and the hoop is 1/4 of an inch wide. For a similar Federico Giuliano piece, see last image, sold at Bonhams on 21/4/2004.
