Griffith, the son of Griffith

Look at that little face. A watercolour miniature of an infant aged one year and seven months, dated 1771. The boy wears a lace frock and lace bonnet and  clutches a ribbon in his hand. The miniature is set to a gold pendant/brooch mount. The pendant is inscribed to reverse : Griffith, the son of Sir Griffith Boynton Bart [Baronet] and Mary his wife. Aged one year and seven months, Feb. 17, 1771. Sir Griffith Boynton (1744–1778), the 6th Baronet of Barmston in Yorkshire and his wife Mary were notable members of the Yorkshire gentry residing at Burton Agnes Hall. The child portrayed is Sir Griffith Boynton, 7th Baronet (1769–1801), the eldest son of the 6th Baronet, who became the 7th Baronet at the age of nine. The pendant measures 1.5 inches by 1 and 1/4 inches. A sensitive, well executed portrait miniature. Immaculate.
