GS mourning ring
An unusual and fine example of a mourning ring, circa 1790. The high carat gold shank supports a domed compartment set with a tight weave of dark hair under crystal. Buckled to the hair compartment is a vibrant royal blue foiled glass plaque surmounted by the diamond initials GS, within a surround of rose-cut diamonds. The ring is size P and 1/2 [US 7 and 3/4] and can be sized and the head of the ring measures 1 and 1/8 inches by 3/4 of an inch. Elegantly austere, beautiful quality, immaculate.
