Harlequin butterfly

An unusually large and sumptuous example of a harlequin butterfly brooch, circa 1830 – 1840. It is high carat gold and set with large faceted Madeira and lemon citrines and an amethyst. The brooch measures 2 inches by 1 and 3/4 inches. Very fine quality, one of the best examples of this type of brooch I’ve seen.
