Memento mori skull ring
A one-off skull ring of exceptional quality, dated 1741. It is 18 carat gold and the outer hoop has a central skull motif and the details of the deceased in bold gold capitals on a black enamel ground : Jane Hassell Ob. 23 July 1741. To interior a hair locket compartment and most unusually the date of her marriage : M. 23 Apr. 1737. Jane was the daughter of Sir John Tynte, Baronet and in 1737 she married Major Ruisshe Hassell of the Royal Horse Guards. She bore two daughters before tragically dying after only four years of marriage at the age of 32. The ring is size Q and 1/2 [US 8 and 1/4] and the hoop is 1/8 of an inch wide. Very fine quality, immaculate.
