One heart
A most poignant mourning heart locket, circa 1790. It is 15 carat gold and has a central locket compartment containing three interwoven strands of hair under crystal, within a surround of old-cut diamonds and Burma rubies. The bow-ribbon top is enamelled in black with a most unusual Latin motto capilla trium cor unum – which translates as three locks of hair, one heart. To reverse there are three sets of initials – RT, AT, TCM. The locket measures 1 and 1/4 inches by 2/3 of an inch. Precious little thing. Thank you Professor G. for translating the Latin for me.
