Nubian princess

An agate cameo carved in two strata of ‘a Nubian princess’, circa 1790. It is set to a high carat gold ring and within a surround of rose-cut diamonds. Such carvings reflected the period’s fascination with exoticism, depicting the dignified profiles of African nobility. The ring is size P [US 7 and 1/2] and can be sized, and the head of the ring measures 3/4 of an inch by 2/3 of an inch. Fine quality agate carving, immaculate condition.
