Her Majesty’s Theatre token
An admission token dated 1840 for a season’s admission to Her Majesty’s theatre in London. It is inscribed in red ink with the details of the subscriber : Miss Gyles, Pit Box XVI, 4. The theatre is the only one whose name changes to and from His Majesty’s and Her Majesty’s depending on the sex of the reigning monarch. Its fame today is as the long running venue for Phantom of the Opera. The token measures 1 and 1/4 inches by 1 and 1/4 inches and is pierced for suspension with a gold loop. Immaculate.
