Portuguese chrysoberyl pendant
A substantial articulated Portuguese chrysoberyl pendant, circa 1780. It is silver and densely set with vibrant sea-green chrysoberyl in foiled and closed back settings. Chrysoberyl came from the Minas Gerais region of Brazil, a Portuguese ultramarine colony. Such richly hued gems became a distinct feature of 18th century Portuguese jewels. This pendant measures 3 inches by 2.5 inches. Completely original, in fitted case and immaculate.
