Queen Anne Burgundy-red Paste

Queen Anne Burgundy-red Paste

Rather luscious ‘Queen Anne’ earrings, circa 1760. The double-drop, cherry-red faceted pastes are in their original gilt metal settings with reverse ear fittings and attendant wig loops. The purpose of the wig loop was to stabilise the earrings and keep the gems facing forward. The loops were attached to the head using pins or cord concealed beneath the wearer’s wig. The earrings are 1 and 1/4 inches long and 1 and 1/8 inches wide. Fabulous colour, dazzling in sunlight, in immaculate condition.
